Chicano/a is a cultural and ethnic identity for persons who live in the United States and have Mexican ancestry or are of Mexican origin residing in the US. Usually Chicanos/as have a strong political consciousness. Many residents in the US or people with Mexican ancestors called themselves Mexican Americans, and are also proud of their heritage although they do not use the term Chicano/a.
