The Chicano Movement of the late 1960s is also called the Chicano Civil Rights Movement (El Movimiento). The movement is a continuation of the Mexican American Civil Rights Movement which began in the 1940s. Their goal was to achieve "social liberation" and social justice. In addition their aimed for Mexican American empowerment.
