MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS

Requirements

Phi Theta Kappa membership is based on academic achievement. Typically, the Alpha Omega Rho chapter extends an invitation to students who meet the eligibility requirements. In order to apply for membership through this chapter, a student must:

1. be currently enrolled in Palomar College either full-time or part-time.

2. have completed at least 12 units of coursework leading to an Associate in Arts degree or a transfer program in Palomar College.

3. have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.5 at Palomar College.

4. enjoy full rights of citizenship in his or her respective country.

5. submit the completed application form (PDF) to the Student Activities Office (Student Union Building Room 201).

6. pay a one-time fee of $80.00 at the Student Activities Office before attending the Induction Ceremony.

The downloadable application form requires the FREE Adobe Reader to view and print. Applications are also available from the Student Activities Office (Student Union Building Room 201). The one-time application fee covers the international dues of $45.00, regional dues of $5.00, and the chapter dues of $30.00.

N.B. Participation in chapter activities is not a requirement for membership. No service activities may be required of members, nor may the chapter withhold basic benefits from a member in good standing. Phi Theta Kappa's Constitution requires only that a member maintain a minimum GPA.

    ENHANCED MEMBERSHIP REQUIPMENTS

ALPHA OMEGA RHO CHAPTER

PHI THETA KAPPA

One Star –               maintaining Star level from Semester to semester (50 points)

                                Attend one meeting per month – (5 points each)

                                5 additional points for each additional meeting attended (two or more will be counted)

 Two Star -               100 points

                                Attend one meting per month

                                5 additional points for each additional meeting attended (two or more will be counted)

                                Participate in a chapter activity on campus (10 points)

                                Attend a Satellite Seminar (10 points)

REWARD: Can BORROW Honors Stole and Keep Tassel for graduation (A $25 deposit is required to borrow stole.)

Three Star -             125 points

                                Attend one meeting per month

                                5 additional points for each additional meeting attended (two or more will be counted)

                                Must attend at least one Chapter event per semester (meetings not included)

                                Attend a Satellite Seminar (10 points)

                                Optional item

REWARD:  Receive a letter of commendation from Phi Theta Kappa Advisor.  May BORROW a gold sash and KEEP Tassel for graduation (A $25 deposit is required to borrow stole)       

Four Star -               175 points

                                Attend two meetings per month

                                5 additional points for each additional meeting attended (two or more will be counted)

                                Must attend at least one Chapter event per semester (meetings are not included)

                                Attend a Satellite Seminar (10 points each)

                                Must chair or be a vice-chairperson of a chapter event

                                Optional item

                                REWARD:  Receive a letter of commendation from Phi Theta Kappa Advisor.  May Keep a gold                                                       sash and keep tassel for Commencement.

Five Star -               275 points

                                Attend three meetings per month

                                5 additional points for each additional meeting attended (two or more will be counted)

                                Must attend at least one chapter event per semester (meetings are not included)

                                Attend a Satellite Seminar (10 points each)

                                Must chair be a vice-chairperson of a Chapter event

                                Must attend a Regional event

                                Optional item

REWARD:  Receive a letter of commendation from Phi Theta Kappa Advisor. May KEEP a gold sash and KEEP Tassel for graduation. Receive a Certificate of Completion of the Enhanced Membership. Receive Enhancement Pin.

OPTIONAL ITEMS (25 POINTS EACH)

                Chapter Officer – serve for a full semester

                Regional Officer – serve for a full term

                Attend an International event

                Attend a regional event

                Be a member of the California Academic Team

                Be a Project Leader

Current Inductees

The following Palomar College students have satisfactorily met the requirements above and shall henceforth be regarded as members of the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society. The International Site also has a Members Directory.
